Weekend home exchange 

There is also the option of exchanging homes for a relaxing weekend getaway to a nearby location. Weekend swaps are for those that just want a short stay, perhaps from 1 to 3 or 4 days.  

A home exchange or house swap is - you stay at my place while I stay at yours.  By swapping homes for a vacation, two families, from different parts of the area you live in, from other regions of your country, or the world - agree to exchange homes for a vacation or holiday.   Since no money changes hands between the parties - you can have the a first class vacation anywhere in the world and free home accommodation! 
 
Exchanging homes has many advantages, including significant savings on accommodations. Whether for a short term vacation, or a longer term sabbatical, a home exchange  provides you with more comfort, spaciousness, multiple rooms, kitchen facilities, a yard and greater flexibility than a hotel room.  

Is it safe to trade your home and personal space with a perfect stranger? About as safe as staying in a hotel owned by someone you don't know. Remember that your home exchange counterpart is also taking a risk by staying in your home, so instances in which the arrangement goes bad are few and far between. Historically, complaints are rare.
