Home Exchange - How do I get started?
How do I get started?
You have decided to try a home swap, now what do you do to find an
exchange?
If you started a new business, lets say on a busy corner in downtown
Manhattan New York, you likely wouldn't need to do a lot of advertising.
However if your business was in a residential area, you would want
others to know where you were. The best way to do this is to advertise.
Using the same scenario for home exchanges, if you are a member and have
a listing for a beach house in Hawaii, a flat in Central London,
apartment in Manhattan or a villa in Tuscany, people will come to you
searching for an exchange. One of our London home exchange members has
shared that she receives well over 100 offers for an exchange every
year.
The rest of us need register our exchange plus go out and let others
know that we are open to a home exchange. If your home is in an out of
the way area or not tourist oriented, we encourage you to send out heaps
of inquiries, and put a bit of effort into explaining about your home,
neighborhood and area. As Global is network of several home exchange
clubs, we suggest you take advantage of the worldwide membership offered
and send our lots of inquiries to support your listing.
Some home exchangers like to plan years ahead, while others are open to swapping homes within a few days. Most people who are open to swapping homes for vacations, start looking for exchange partners 4 to 12 months ahead of leaving on their trip.
Where would you like to travel to on an exchange?
Many home exchange members are available to travel to almost any destination, while others are more specific. Perhaps its to some popular worldwide city destination such as New York, San Francisco, Sydney, London or Rome. How about a beach home in Hawaii, the Caribbean, Gold Coast or Spain. Maybe a the country side of France, Canada, New Zealand or the USA appeals to you or maybe it's a ski resort in the Swiss Alps, Colorado, Tahoe, Utah, Vermont or Alberta, that sets your appetite for travel. What ever your destination may be, city, country side or off the beaten path area, there are people open to exchanging homes. Start by exploring the home exchange listings. Then have fun planning and writing your own listing.
